Baustoffe und materialgerechte Konstruktionen des Holzbaus

The students are able to use the building material wood and its derived products appropriately in construction and are aware of possible issues caused by the hygroscopic, anisotropic, heterogeneous, and biological properties of wood. They have developed methods to deal with the scattering properties of wood in construction practice. Their questioning and critical thinking ability regarding well-executed, robust, and reliable wood construction details is trained. Based on their understanding of materials, students can analyse and evaluate the material-specific quality of structural details. They can identify typical load-bearing structures for civil engineering and the necessary construction and connection elements required for their production. They can describe the load-bearing behaviour of structures and their individual components, as well as model and represent them accurately through calculations. They can identify the advantages and disadvantages of constructions and are able to develop design alternatives, evaluate them under given conditions, and based on this, choose meaningful design and construction solutions. The students can describe the most important damage scenarios and their causes. They are capable of preventing damage and designing reliable and durable structures through creativity, diligence, and multifaceted interconnected thinking when designing and calculating load-bearing structures.
